Owens & Minor

Created comprehensive user personas for Owens & Minor University's LMS, enabling targeted learning experiences and seamless course delivery for healthcare professionals across 350+ hospitals.

01

Challenge

Owens & Minor University (OMU) aimed to deliver targeted and effective educational experiences to a diverse audience of healthcare professionals. To achieve this, we needed to create detailed personas that accurately represented our various user groups. These personas would guide the design and development of our customer-facing learning management system (LMS) to ensure it met the specific needs of different users.

02

Action

To address this challenge, I led the development of comprehensive personas for OMU, which informed the technical development and configuration of the LMS. Key actions included:

  • User Persona Creation:Developed detailed personas based on extensive research and input from stakeholders. These personas included:
    • Vicki Lewellyn (Veteran Vicki): An experienced registered nurse in her 50s-60s, overwhelmed by the increasing demands of charting and regulation, longing for a return to patient-focused care.
    • Jane Landow (Jaded Jane): A registered nurse in her 30s-40s, feeling burnt out by the healthcare system but eager to find renewed passion and advance her career.
    • Sony Vasquez (Sunny Sony): An ambitious young nurse in her 20s-30s, passionate about learning and leadership, seeking opportunities for growth and improvement.
    • Susan Montgomery (Savvy Susan): A value analysis professional in her 30s-50s, focused on research and evidence-based decision-making, striving for administrative support and recognition.
    • Steve Morisson (Upstart Steve): A supply chain professional in his 30s-40s, eager to innovate and move up in management, frustrated by conventional methods.
    • Rick Silver (Rigid Rick): An experienced supply chain leader in his 50s, wary of technology but under pressure to cut costs and streamline operations.
  • LMS Configuration: Configured the OMU LMS to cater to the needs of these personas, ensuring seamless registration, course delivery, and certification processes.
  • Course and Certification Development: Developed courses and certifications that aligned with the professional goals and learning preferences of each persona.
  • Certificate Template Design: Created the final certificate template awarded to learners upon successful completion of the courses, reflecting the prestige of OMU certifications.

  • Seamless Registration and Learning: Configured the LMS to provide a smooth user experience, enabling learners to easily register for courses and access educational content.
  • Professional Recognition: Successfully launched courses and certifications, providing valuable credentials to healthcare professionals and enhancing their professional development.
  • Positive User Feedback: Received positive feedback from users regarding the relevance and quality of the educational content, demonstrating the effectiveness of the personas in guiding LMS development.
